In order to take the Basic RiderCourse, which teaches you how to ride a motorcycle or scooter and prepares you to take your licensing test, you need a valid driver's license. If you are an IL resident, you'll also need to get a motorcycle permit before your first day of class with us.

You can prepare for the motorcycle permit test by studying the Illinois Motorcycle Operator Manual.  Reviewing the Rules of the Road is also recommended.

To get your motorcycle permit, head over to your local Department of Motor Vehicles facility and ask to take the motorcycle permit test, which a 15 question, multiple choice test. It costs $10. If you pass, they'll give you your permit before you leave.

Please keep both the actual permit as well as the receipt, which the examiner will ask for when you take the licensing road test.
